What's New?:
CONSOLE GAMES THAT PROMOTE GOOD HEALTH.
The
increase of obesity in children has risen consistently within the last decade.
The culprit is two-fold: parents denial of a weight problem in their children
and too much "screen time" (combined time a child spends in sitting in front of
a TV or Computer screen). I found in an article at:
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life/relationships/parenting/Simple-interventions-up-parental-accuracy-of-kids-weight/articleshow/6162711.cms
that these concerns are overwhelming parent's abilities to intervene. At this
time, however, within the video gaming industry, there is a great movement
towards kinectic video gaming (games and consoles that require the players
movement in order to play). These kinectic user interfaces or "KUI" are at he
heart of new offerings coming out this fall such as; Xbox's Kinect and
Playstation's Move.
Playstation Move:

Xbox Kinect

The potentials are marvelous when we consider that we can make our
children's "screen time" turn into exercise time! How great would that be?
Instead of your children getting fat playing video games, now they can lose fat
and develop tone in front of the TV! All we need now is to add some math and
reading to the mix and we have the perfect gaming experience for our children!

Article: Realizing the Child - Part 1!
Every child is born into the world with two very important
innate qualities, granted by nature, to ensure the survivability of our
species. These two qualities hold the secret to our adaptive skills
(learning) and also hold the key to the origins and solutions to most of our
personal challenges. First, a child is born with a clean slate - it does not
have a pre-set cultural language, does not have the faculty to walk, talk or
stand upright, does not have the ability to defend itself, to run away, to
seek shelter, to find food, to survive without the help of another human
being or creature. Though many believe in reincarnation, there is one major
obstacle to its reasoning - that it wholly depends on human caretaking for
its viability. What use is the knowledge of pre-existence when it doesn't
help the infant exist in the here and now?
The second quality is that
of total environmental absorption - the child, even before birth, is
learning of its environment. The child is a sponge - absorbing sounds,
sights, smells, touch, as well as, actions, reactions, feelings and a
complex set of all other happenings and nuances from its environment which
the child then processes and arranges in their mind.
What happens is
that these "happenings" help to form the child's persona. How it is treated
and how significant others are treated are a major component in the child's
persona make-up. Many studies have been conducted that show how siblings
differ from one another due to the changing economic standing and maturity
of their parents. Mature parents produce more stable children who are both
emotionally and economically grounded. These tend to fare better in
academics and life outcomes.
The child requires its environment to
"feed" it all the information it needs in order for the child to be
realized. Difficulties or inadequacies in that environment will impact upon
the child as difficulties and inadequacies - simply.
We have an easy
way of seeing how the environment impacts upon our children; just as they
pick up on their family's language, so too, they are impressed with their
family's difficulties and inadequacies. At all times, the child is learning
the posits and reactions of their family unit - inclusive of extended family
and guests who may be exposed to the child for extended lengths of time.
Many external factors impact the environment from which the child derives
its basis for being.
What are our concerns? What do we wish for our
child? What do we want their future to be? These are the questions we must
answer - not by words but by enhancing their environment with these
realizations and their building blocks, in order for our children to be so
realized. Most parents leave it to chance due to ignorance. Now ignorance is
no longer an option nor is it recommended. Parents must improve the
environment their children are or will be raised in - this includes, above
all, the family itself.
All of the skills and the knowledge you need is available
to you by simply registering for one of our courses. You can become the
best parent, truly. But you need the best resources. These are they!
