What Is Self-Learning?
Self-Learning is the acquisition of knowledge without the need for a formal education setting (college course or instructor). It is obtained through gaining experience through a work/business contract or through reading authoritative books, practicing and experimenting / testing elements and forming new applications or innovation within the area of study.

In this way, you can gain the experience and knowledge required in real-time as you prepare the portfolio for your college credit completion without the traditional expense and time constraints of your regular college course enrollment.

Why waste more time of your life delaying the completion of your college education (or going to college) because of your obligations and other interests you know are immediately important and gratifying to you?

Now you can live and let live while earning your college credits along the way – killing two birds with one stone!

What is Prior Learning Assessment?
Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), which includes Portfolio Assessment, refers to a collection of credit-earning methods used by many regionally-accredited colleges and universities to award credit for college-level knowledge acquired outside the classroom.

This knowledge is equivalent to what would have been learned in a college course on the same subject.

Many institutions recognize the knowledge students bring with them when they come to college – this knowledge can earn college credit awarded and applied to a degree.

What Does the Portfolio Mentor Course Do For You?
By taking this course, you will be able to put together your portfolio (of learning) with the help of your own academic mentor so that you can prepare and present a quality presentation of your learning to the college of your choice in order to be awarded credit toward your college degree.

Once enrolled, you will be helped personally by a faculty mentor who will walk you through every step and will review your formulation and compiling of prior learning for inclusion in your portfolio.

Most colleges and universities will require you to take Prior Learning portfolio preparation courses and within these courses they will inform and instruct on how they want your portfolio to look like. Because of this and differences there may be, our course will help you formulate and gather all the information together so that you will be able to place all these pieces together in anyway the college of your choice requires your portfolio to be. In most cases, the way we have you put things together will be exactly or very close to what your chosen college will request.

No matter what you need to do in order to present a qualified portfolio to your chosen college for review, while you are enrolled in our mentored class, we will help you to comply and fulfill the requirements.

In many cases, students have been able to qualify for a full college degree using just their portfolio assessment credits. It all depends on the amount and quality of prior learning experiences and how this is presented in your portfolio for proper assessment. Other factors include the college’s policies on awarding PLA (Prior Learning Assessment) credits toward a complete degree. You will be guided on choosing the right college to complete your college education with. In some instances, you may want a degree from a particular or specialized college with more limits on credit awards more than getting full credits from a more mainstream institution with liberal crediting policies.

What’s a PLA portfolio?
A portfolio is a written presentation that you assemble and submit to earn credit for knowledge that is equivalent to what would be taught in a specific course. Each portfolio is guided by the course description and provides evidence of learning through a written narration which includes the evidence in support of your knowledge and background.

How many credits can I earn through portfolio assessment?
This depends on which college you choose to accept your portfolio. There a a handful that accept all credit attempted towards the degree without limit. Other colleges will require that you take a number of credits before a degree is granted.

Some colleges may not accept portfolio assessment for math or composition courses, for example, but may offer a testing alternative like credit by exam for these subjects.

Who Should Take This Course?
Anyone with a High School Diploma or GED and without a college degree.

You may have prior life experience or you can gain the required experience or knowledge through the process of portfolio creation.
